Immaculately presented, and engagingly sociable, Le Bois Joli is a gem of a park, situated in the heart of the Vendée's gentle landscape.

Enthusiastically managed and maintained by Martine and Eric, Le Bois Joli is a small rural site that attracts families and couples who like to relax, recharge their batteries and make new friends. The pools offer a natural meeting point by day, while at night, the bar is a great place to share stories and swap holiday tips. You might want to team up with your new friends for a spot of karaoke too. There's a sprinkling of sports to try, but tranquillity is never far away at Le Bois Joli – it's that sort of place. Parkland is criss-crossed with hiking paths, and sun-terraces are well placed to take advantage of the region's impressive sunshine record. This is a place for leisurely, informal days and long, lazy evenings. Leave the black-tie and evening wear at home!

Located near to some of the Vendée's most intriguing sites, Le Bois Joli makes an excellent base. The closest town, Challans, is a bustling town famous for its poultry and eggs – sold at the vibrant market, held every Tuesday. Challans is a great place to shop, too, with an excellent reputation for its well-made crafts. Seafood is superb, as it is in most places in the Vendée. Day trips not to miss include a boat trip to Noirmoutier island, with its wonderful water park and excellent restaurants, close to the island's cloak of ancient green woodland. The region's marshlands offer the opportunity to take a relaxing boat ride deep into estuarine tributaries, revealing the silent French countryside but, with over 80% of its coastline protected by law, it's the luminous light and soft sands of the Vendée's beaches that will draw you back, time after time.
